Referring a child.
The trust engages with Oranga Tamariki and other social organisations that identify tamariki aged between 8-12 years who need additional support to enable them to play sports.
We can only accept referrals through official social and health organisations. Application referrals are for disadvantaged tamariki that want to play community sport but are unable to through either:
1: Cost
2: Transport
3: Equipment
4: Confidence
5: Social Barriers
Criteria for Application
Before referring, we ask that the family be consulted about the commitment required for their child to participate in the sports mentor program.
They must have an interest in participating in a nominated community sport(s)
Family are willing to work with SFST to help support the child, especially after the 1yr mentoring program completion. SFST can contribute fees and equipment and will continue to work with families to help support the child during the following 4-year scholarship program.
Must be between the ages of 8 and 12
Be willing to try new activities
Disclosure of any behavioral issues, medical requirements, and if the child is taking any medication.
